The best description that I have ever heard of the synchronized fire flies in Elkmont near Gatlinburg is “surround sound for the eyes.” This week several of our guests at The Foxtrot Bed and Breakfast have braved the lines for the National Park Service trolley to enjoyed nature’s light show. Pictures or words are insufficient to describe the phenonmena of thousands and thousands of lightening bugs flashing. When they flash, they light whole areas of the trails around Elkmont. All our guests have agreed that the light show was worth the wait for the trolley. I do wish, however, that the National Park Service would find a better balance between managing the crowds and conserving the Elmont area and the fire flies.
